Ryan and Karlee eloped with their closest friends in the mountains near Boulder Colorado. The two of them came all the way from Delaware for a true Colorado fall experience, and they got it! The fall colors were just starting to pop, the mountains were beautiful, and the alpine lakes were calm and blue. Plus, we even saw a bald eagle after the ceremony!
The day started with a hike through the woods to an alpine lake. The weather was a little chilly, but clear, and the fall colors were just starting to pop. Everyone wore matching sweatsuits and carried everything they needed, including celebratory donuts!
Once we arrived to the lake, Karlee and Ryan changed into their gown and tux and then did a first look. Then we took photos and ate some really delicious donuts while enjoying the view and the company. Then Karlee and Ryan’s friends took off on their own adventure while Karlee and Ryan hiked to a different lake for a private vow exchange.
They played rock paper scissors to decide who would read vows first and then had the sweetest private ceremony on the shore of the lake.
In Karlee’s words:
“Ryan and I knew each other from high school. In 2013, I ran into him at the movie theater with some mutual friends. According to my mom and brother, I was “acting like a weirdo” and they hounded me for more information. At the time, there was not much to say. He was just some guy who saved me from a toxic relationship a few years prior. A few weeks later, Ryan and I reconnected. We started working out together and became instant “best friends”. After a night full of Jack Daniels, we realized we were more than friends.”
Now, nine years later, they are married!
Here’s what the couple said when asked why they chose an intimate elopement in Colorado:
“We never pictured ourselves having a true wedding. We are very private people and thoughts of reading vows in front of people scare us lol. We would rather spend money on experiences that we will remember for a lifetime than a busy wedding day pleasing other people. Eloping in Colorado also allows us to have a vacation!
